 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalms 116:15

Wanda Ray Jones, age 78, Erwin, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2018 in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit while she was surrounded by her loving family. She was a life-long resident of Unicoi County. Wanda was a daughter of the late Basil and Zettie Shelton Ray.

She was employed by the Unicoi County School System for several years where she worked as a substitute teacher and cook. Wanda was a Charter Member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church for fifty-eight years. She loved her church and her church family.

Wanda was a loving and devoted preacher's wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Barnabas Ray, Harold Ray and Haze Shelton; one sister, Leona Shelton.

Wanda leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving, dedicated husband of sixty-three years, Reverend Bernie Freeman Jones; one son, Doug Jones and wife, Sharon, Johnson City; one sister, Ann Edwards and husband, Jack, Erwin; two grandsons: Derrick “Alex” Jones and Ian Jones; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Southside Freewill Baptist Church. Reverend Charlie Trivette and Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by the church choir and pianist. Pallbearers will be Jeff Allen, Sam Mauk, Scott Metcalf, Justin Edwards, Jacob Allen and Casey Allen. Committal will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 A.M. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
