Obituary for Charlotte Jean Cooper (Whaley)

Charlotte Jean Cooper, age 73, 111 Banner Street, Erwin went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 13, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and a daughter of Artielea Bennett Whaley of Erwin and the late Arnold Whaley.

Charlotte was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church where she served in the past as Treasurer of the Young Adult Class. She was formerly employed at Unicoi Elementary School where she enjoyed cooking with her sister for the students. Charlotte loved her custodial job at Unicoi United Methodist Church and working with her husband and brothers at the Food Shoppe.

She liked going to flea markets and never passed up a good yard sale. Charlotte grew beautiful flowers and enjoyed working in the garden. She was a great cook and loved making meals to share with her family, friends and neighbors. Charlotte was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend....she will be dearly missed by all.

Charlotte leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, her loving husband of fifty-three years, Robert Cooper; one son, Jason Cooper and his special friend , Jen, Lake Powell, UT; three grandchildren: Eric, Sidney and Brooke Cooper, all of Erwin; two brothers: David Whaley and wife, Pam, Johnson City, Randy Whaley and wife, Debbie, Watauga; one sister, Joy Whitson and husband, Doug; three brothers-in-law: Roy Cooper and wife, Laura, Weaverville, J. B. Cooper and wife, Becky, Johnson City, Bill Cooper and wife, Carla, Republic, MO; one sister-in-law, Geneva Thomas, Erwin; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive; special friends and caregivers, Karen and Billy Boone, Erwin.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence. Reverend Kevin Laws, Reverend Charlie Trivette and Reverend Ferrell Peterson will officiate at the 7:30 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Kevin Laws and Inez Chandler. Committal service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wedneday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric Cooper, Sidney Cooper, Bert Kramer, Kelvin Thomas Brian Hughes, Scottie Whaley and Nick Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Whaley, David Whaley, Randy Whaley and Doug Edwards. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 P.M. on Wednesday.
