Obituary for Randy Whaley

Randy Whaley, age 66, Watauga, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center while he was surrounded by his loving family. He was an Erwin native but lived most of his life in Carter County. Randy is a son of Artielea Bennett Whaley and the late Arnold Whaley.

He retired from Pierce's Grocery where he was the Produce Manager for several years. Randy was a charter member of Range Community Christian Church. After becoming a resident at NHC Healthcare four years ago, Randy became very involved in the Christian Services NHC offered.

Randy loved University of Tennessee sports and NASCAR.

Although Randy faced many challenging health issues over the past several years, you never heard him complain. He was continuously praising Jesus and thanking Him for all His blessings. Randy always put others first and loved his family dearly. Everyone who knew Randy loved him, and the impact he made in their lives will last forever.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Cooper on April 13, 2018; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Aaron and Liz Feathers; special sister-in-law, Kim Townsend.

Randy leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, his wife of forty-three years, Debbie Whaley; one brother, David Whaley (Pam), Johnson City; one sister, Joy Whitson (Doug), Erwin; very special nephews, who were like sons to Randy: Matt Townsend (Jessica), Garett Townsend (Emily), Scotty Whaley, Nathan Whaley, Thomas Whaley and Jason Cooper; special niece, who was like a daughter to him, Gaynell Hughes (Nick) and son, Brian; "that little girl", Zoey Townsend; "that little boy", Caiden Townsend; two brothers-in-law: Robert Cooper, Erwin and Gary Townsend, Elizabethton; special friends, Rick Bailey and Devin Pierson; several aunts, uncles, cousins, great niece and great nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend a grateful and heartfelt thank you to all the staff and residents at NHC healthcare for all the loving care given to Randy, as well as his family. Thank you to his special nurses: Judy, Ashley, Annie, Alan and Vanessa. Thank you to all the CNA's especially Sharon, Amanda, Denise, Serita, Angela, Sidney, Bethany and Tonya.

A celebration of Randy's life will be held at 2:15 P.M. on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at NHC Healthcare. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in memory of Randy to: NHC Healthcare, Activities Department, 3209 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601. NHC was dear to Randy's heart, he loved and enjoyed all the special activities offered.
