Obituary for Raymond Troy "Ray" Burchett

Raymond Troy "Ray"  Burchett
Raymond Troy “Ray” Burchett, age 84, Erwin, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, at his residence. He was a native of Lucasville, Ohio but had lived in Unicoi County the last 52 years. Ray was a son of the late Marvin Troy and Delephia Burchett.

Ray was a US Navy veteran where he proudly served during the Korean War as a signalman on the USS Cony DD-508 Destroyer and received the Navy Occupation Service Metal. He was a retired truck driver with forty years of service. Ray was a member of Roseville Baptist Church and the Flag Pond Masonic Lodge. He was well known for being a great diesel mechanic. Ray enjoyed woodworking and he could build anything. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Charlie and Fred Burchett.

Ray leaves behind his family whom he dearly loved, his wife, Velda “Kate” Burchett, two sons: Jimmy Burchett and wife, Amy, Erwin, Scott Burchett and wife, Tammy, Greeneville; three daughters: Karen Peake and husband, Alan, Erwin, Lesa Crain and husband, Butch, Gray, Mary Burchett, of the home; nine grandchildren: Olivia and Becca Peake, Curtis and Katie Crain, Austin, Isaac, Emily, Ethan, and Cora Burchett; two great grandchildren: Elijah Lyons and Kinley Crain; three brothers: Steve, Rick, and Tim Burchett; three sisters: Lois, Mary Jane, and Vickie Burchett; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home. Reverend Craig Shelton and Reverend Harold Lewis will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Alan Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Galloway, Alan Clouse, Austin Burchett, Isaac Burchett, Curtis Crain, and Ethan Burchett. Entombment service will be held at 12:30 P.M. Wednesday in the Evergreen Mausoleum. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:00 Noon Wednesday to go in procession to the mausoleum.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice Care, especially Becky Edwards, Ashley Paladino, and Chaplain Karl Gasser.
