Obituary for Gene Ramsey

Gene Ramsey
If we meet and you forget me, you have lost nothing; but if you meet JESUS CHRIST and forget Him, you have lost everything. Where you are going is much more important than where you have been. John 3:16 & 14:6, 1st John 1:9, Romans 10:9 & 12:11

Gene Ramsey, age 80, Erwin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Unicoi County Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Sankey and Audrey Bennett Ramsey.

Gene was a United States Army Veteran. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Master Marksman M-14 Medal. He was employed at Hoover Ball for fifteen years prior to starting his trucking business. Gene owned and operated his trucking business for twenty years.

He was very involved and a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church. Gene was a member of the Regular Fellows Sunday School Class. He enjoyed being the Greeter at church. Also, he drove the Seniors Group at Calvary to special outings and events. He was born again thirty years ago in May 1988. Gene loved Jesus with all his heart and shared his faith with joyful enthusiasm! He had special cards printed to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and loved handing them out to everyone he met. One of Gene's favorite hymns, which he requested every Sunday night was #407, “Because He Lives”.

He was a member of Centennial Masonic Lodge #491 F&AM. Gene was a member of Jericho Shrine Temple and loved raising money to help the children's hospital.

Gene was an avid and very passionate Tennessee Vols fan. He loved his Unicoi County Blue Devils and enjoyed attending all sporting events over the years. Gene would take a load of watermelons to share with the football players.

He had a huge, generous and genuinely caring heart. Gene never met a stranger and couldn't wait to greet you with a smile, handshake or hug. He loved his community and supported various fundraisers and charity events.

Gene loved giving everyone advice, and more advice, and more advice! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and his words of wisdom will be cherished for generations to come. To know Gene Ramsey was to love Gene Ramsey, he was truly one of a kind.
