Dwight Briggs, age 74, Flag Pond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Seth and Nola Rice Briggs.
He was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during the Vietnam Era. Dwight was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle) Badge.
He was a member of Upper Rice Creek Baptist Church for sixty-five years. Dwight was very active in the church over the years. Dwight was a self-employed farmer. He was a former Director of the Unicoi County Farmer's Co-Op.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Lucille Briggs and Kathleen Thomas; five half-brothers; four half-sisters.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of fifty years, Jennifer Harris Briggs; one sister, Ernestine Harris, Erwin; one half-sister, Dot Minon and husband Tony, Ohio; sister-in-law, Imogene Griffin and husband Bud; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2019 in the Rice Creek Cemetery. The 11:00 AM outdoor funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Don Wilson and Reverend Jeff Autrey. Pallbearers will be Loren Thomas, Bob Thomas, Ricky McKinney, Andrew Autrey, Kelse Watts and Gary Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be L.J. McKinney, Jaxson Treadway, Harrison Treadway and Blaze Dufour. Military Honors will be rendered by the Carter County Honor Guard.
