David Earl Garland, Sr., age 69, Erwin, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Unicoi County Hospital. He is a son of the late Earl C. Garland and Thelma Wilson Garland. David lived most of his life in Unicoi County.
David was a very active Elder member of Rock Creek Presbyterian Church. He was a very talented pianist and served as the church pianist.
David retired from the State of Tennessee, where he had worked for several years in Child Protective Services. David enjoyed doing charity work through the church, he was a very hard worker and a jack of all trades. He loved UT Football!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Paula K. Edwards.
David leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Ghuangping Hu Garland, three sons: David Earl Garland, Jr. (Amber), Midway, Austin Garland and Brian Garland both of Erwin; two daughters: Donna Bender (Mark) and Debra Cox (Sean), all of Greeneville; six grandchildren and one niece, Allena Stout.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at the Rock Creek Presbyterian Church. Pastor Stan Webster will officiate at the 7:00 PM funeral service. Committal will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Elders of Rock Creek Presbyterian Church will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 AM on Wednesday.
