Obituary for Alonzo Bryant

Alonzo  Bryant
Alonzo Bryant, age 85, Erwin, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a son of the late James and Naomi Howell Bryant. Alonzo was a native of Poplar, NC, but lived in Pennsylvania for forty years before returning to Mitchell County, NC in 1988 and then to Erwin in October 2010.

Alonzo was a retired truck driver with twenty-five years of service. He had over two million miles of safe driving awards.

Alonzo was a loving father and husband. He loved farming, woodworking, cooking, hunting, and fishing. He had a corn mill and ground corn.

Alonzo made three cathedral window quilts. He was always willing to help others and everyone he met was a friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles Bryant; two brothers-in-law Garfa Peterson and George Phillips.

Those left to cherish his memory, include his wife of fifty-three years, Muriel Young Bryant; two sons: Jim Bryant (Judi), of Downingtown, PA, Richard Bryant (Julie), of Honeybrook, PA; one daughter, Susan Bryant, of Coatesville, PA; five brothers: Richard Bryant (Patty), of Erwin, Douglas Bryant (Carolyn), of Poplar, NC, Dewey Bryant, Kenneth Bryant (Charlotte), Wayne Bryant, all of Yancey County, NC; three sisters: Betty Peterson, of Erwin, Dorothy Peterson, of Poplar, NC, Daphne Phillips, of Garner, NC; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per Alonzo’s wishes there will not be any funeral services held.
