Ellen J. (Mathes) Delgado

Ellen Delgado, age 93, of Erwin, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton following a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Belle Mathes.

Mrs. Delgado was a native of Erwin, having moved to South Florida in the early 1950’s where she pursued her career and raised her family.

Mrs. Delgado was a loyal employee of the historic downtown Miami, FL Burdines Department Store. Upon retiring with thirty plus years of service, she and her beloved husband Arthur returned to Erwin in 1992 to enjoy retirement in these beautiful Tennessee Mountains.

Mrs. Delgado was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Delgado in 2002.

Survivors include: one daughter, Susan Delgado of Bluff City; one son, Fred Harris and daughter-in-law Patty Harris of Erwin; niece, Carol Ann Whaley and special friend Helen Hyder. She also leaves behind her grandson Brian Roberts of Springfield, OR; two great granddaughters and two great-great granddaughters.

Memorial service for Mrs. Delgado will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church.
